TORAH SOFER(TM) For MS Windows
DESCRIPTION
TORAH SOFER (Torah Scribe) is a shareware Hebrew font package for
MS Windows. Its typeface replicates the style used in Torah scrolls in
regular, bold, and bold italic weights. There are all 27 letters of
the Hebrew alphabet plus four punctuation characters. As with
scriptural Hebrew style written in the Torah, no vowel signs or
points, no "sh'va", and no cantillation marks (disjunctives and
conjunctives) are supported as may be done with other Hebrew font
packages. Although scriptural Hebrew does not use punctuation, modern
Hebrew does, and the "soph-pasuk" (:), "makkeph" (-), single prime (')
and double prime (") marks are included as a conveience.
FILES:
This shareware package is distributed with the following files:
README.1ST This is the file you are reading
TORAH.WRI TORAH SOFER information file. Use MS Window's
WRITE.EXE to read after font installation
ALEPHBET.WRI Sample file for WRITE.EXE containing Hebrew
alphabet
REGISTER.DOC License information and registration form
TORAH.TTF TORAH SOFER Truetype file
TORAH.AFM TORAH SOFER Adobe Font Metrics file
TORAH.INF TORAH SOFER Postscript information file
TORAH.PFB TORAH SOFER Postscript file
TORAH.PFM TORAH SOFER Postscript file
TORAH SOFER is distributed with both TrueType (.TTF) and
PostScript/Adobe Type 1 (.AFM, .INF, .PFB, and .PFM) files which allow
scalable point sizes and provide support for printers supported by
Microsoft Windows. Since the TORAH SOFER font is attached to the
operating system of Microsoft Windows and is not part of a particular
Word Processor, it is available to any and all Windows executable
programs which allow for full font selection.
FONT INSTALLATION:
EUROPEAN TrueType and PostScript fonts are installed like any
other fonts of the same type.
REGISTRATION:
TORAH SOFER is available as shareware. It may be examined,
tested, and tried out for free on a 30-day trial basis for the purpose
of determining whether TORAH SOFER is suitable for your needs. The use
of unlicensed copies of TORAH SOFER, outside of the initial 30-day
trial, by any person, business, corporation, government agency or any
other entity is strictly prohibited.
The use of TORAH SOFER, except for the initial 30-day trial,
requires registration (See REGISTER.DOC) and payment of a registration
fee of $5.00 ($US). At this price, I won't become a millionaire but it
will not break **your** bank. It merely helps pay for the commercial
software used in creating these fonts in the first place and provides
encouragement for the creation of future products.
OTHER PRODUCTS:
The following other shareware fonts are available:
EUROPE20.ZIP - It allows the user to add those additional letters
having various diacritical marks as well as several unique characters
for European languages using the Latin (non-Cyrillic) alphabet. Many
of these characters are not provided as extended ANSI characters for
the standard Arial (Universal/Helvetica) and New Times Roman fonts
that come with MS Windows. These diacritical marks include the grave,
acute, tilde, dieresis (umlaut), Hungarian umlaut, macron, breve,
circumflex, caron, ring, cedilla, lenis, asper, and several others
with non-household names. Special letters include the slash O and L,
German double S, and AE.
Currently, the following 23 languages are supported:
Albanian Latvian (Lettish)
Croatian Lithuanian
Czech Norwegian
Danish Polish
Dutch Portuguese
Esperanto Roumanian
Estonian Slovak
Finnish Slovenian
French Spanish
German Swedish
Hungarian Turkish
Italian
EUROPEAN is an economical and affordable alternative to
commercial foreign language word processors and add-on fonts costing
$99 and more. The use of EUROPEAN, except for the initial 30-day
trial, requires registration $10.00 ($US) for the 5-¼" disk (add $1
for the 3-½" disk); Overseas add $1 for airmail.
TKRTAPE.ZIP - Simulates letters, whole numbers, dollar fractions,
and symbols that appear on a stockbroker's ticker tape or on the
"ticker tape" screen display on cable TV channels such as CNN and
CNBC. This font was developed for writing the book: "The Informed
Investor's Guide to Financial Quotations: Evaluating Stocks, Bonds,
Mutual Funds, Futures, and Options" by Howard M. Berlin, published
1994 by Business One-Irwin, a division of Times Mirror. Registration
fee $5.00 ($US).
